They are neatly standing up so you can see each tip.  Also, the solar charger is smaller than I expected which was a good suprise.  It'll be easier to carry.    Although my first inclination was to plug in my phone, I figured I should read the instructions before I plugged it in, and of course, it needs to be fully charged first.  Since it was a sunny day, I placed it in the sun.  After a couple of hours it was half charged so I used the AC to finish the charge.  (I love that it has the AC adaptor option to charge the charger since we have many coudy days where we live.) The power indicator lights are handy to see the level of charge it has.   Once I was ready to charge my phone, I plugged it in using the iPhone tip and it didn't work.  I was a little disappointed, but then I thought I should continue to read the instructions...and of course, I just needed to press the little button for a couple of seconds and it started to charge.   Overall, this product seems to be of good quality...just remember to read the instructions before use.
